An annual 16-day period known as Pitru Paksha or Shradh commemorates Hindu ancestors and forefathers. To appease their ancestors’ souls, people offer prayers and food in their homes, which is believed to bring prosperity and happiness. In this ritual, we honor and express gratitude to our ancestors, remember them for all they have given us, and pray for their well-being.
It occurs every year in Bhadrapada month during Purnima Tithi of Shukla Paksha. The Pitru Paksha of 2022 begins on Sep 10, 2022, and ends on Sep 25, 2022, on the Amavasya Tithi of Krishna Paksha. A variety of Tarpan rites are also performed during these days for the departed members of various families. Pandits and Brahmins are offered special food and clothing. As our ancestors ate and accepted the food, it is thought the Brahmins eventually reached them. Starting a new job or buying something during this period, however, is considered inauspicious.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PITRU PAKSHA 2022
A realm between heaven and earth known as Pitru Loka is home to the souls of our past three generations, according to Hindu mythology. This world is ruled by Yama, the deity of death. When a member of the first generation passes away, the following generation is brought closer to God, taking them to heaven. It is only the past three generations that are subject to rituals in Pitru-Loka. According to myth, our ancestors become pleased and protect us if rituals are performed with faith, devotion, love, and respect.
Along with inherited wealth and possessions, we also inherit the consequences of our ancestors’ sins. It is sometimes their misdeeds that prevent them from reaching a state of peace after death. There is a possibility that the present generation could suffer from this disturbance of their souls. The Tarpan rituals in Shradh can help them find inner peace after having committed sins. You can bring inner peace to your ancestors by performing Tarpan rituals.
Unnatural deaths are the primary cause of soul disturbance. Unnatural deaths occur before the real or natural time. They can be caused by any accident and, on rare occasions, by suicide. Tarpan rituals are particularly significant in Shradha for removing the repercussions of these sudden deaths and achieving heavenly serenity of the soul.
