This year, Maha Shivratri falls on March 1st.

THE Affiliated BELIEFS

Numerous people are celebrating this day as the nuptials of Shiva and Shakti. On this day, Lord Shiva, per the tradition, wedded Goddess Parvati. Another tale related to this day is the Samudra Manthan, in which Mahadev rescued the cosmos by swallowing the venom in his throat.

ITS Vital IMPORTANCE

This is a very momentous day, both cosmologically and spiritually. Tapas and other purification rituals are anticipated to lead to Nirvana or enlightenment.
