Parana means breaking the fast. Ekadashi Parana is done after sunrise on the next day of the Ekadashi fast. It is necessary to do Parana within Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi is over before sunrise. Not doing Parana within Dwadashi is similar to an offence.

Why one should not eat rice on Ekadashi?

It's the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (the brilliant fortnight of the moon) in the Hindu month of "Pausha." What is Putrada Ekadashi?

Putrada Ekadashi festival is a significant celebration that is devoted to Lord Vishnu. The performance of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi rites by married couples is a regular tradition that takes place during this celebration. The significance and observance of this day is humongous. People who want to have a son fast and do all necessary rituals on the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi. This is done in the hopes of receiving blessings from Lord Vishnu. The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi will occur on 2nd January 2023 this year.

When is Pausha Putrada Ekadashi celebrated?

The Putrada Ekadashi festival takes place twice a year. As per the Hindu lunar calendar, Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of every Hindu month. According to the Gregorian calendar, the first Putrada Ekadashi is called Pausha Putrada Ekadashi or Paush Shukla Putrada Ekadashi, which is celebrated in January or December. As per the calendar year, the second Putrada Ekadashi falls during the month of Shravana, which falls in August or July. The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is being observed today i.e., 2nd January 2023.

What is Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha?

To conclude the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Vrat, it is necessary to listen to the Vrat Katha. The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi story is as follows:

Suketu Man, the king of Bhadravati, and his queen Habiya were depressed after not having any male children. The Shradh rituals were a cause for concern for them, as they worried about the performance of the rituals after their death, so their souls could rest in peace. Eventually, the King retreated into the dense forests, leaving his kingdom and all its luxuries behind.

After numerous hardships and roaming for many days, he arrived at the ashram of a few sages living on the bank of Mansarovar on the day of Paush Ekadashi. After learning about the King, the sages advised him to keep a Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast to be blessed with a son. Suketu returned to the Kingdom on the advice of the renowned sages and kept a strict fast of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi with his queen. By the heavenly blessings and favor of Lord Vishnu, they were soon bestowed with a male child.

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Puja vidhi:

Every fasting rite must be performed and followed with must be done and followed with enthusiasm in order to reap the greatest rewards.

The following is the Puja Vidhi for Pausha Putrada Ekadashi being observed on 2nd January 2023:

• Devotees must rise early in the morning and take a shower.

• Observers must recite the Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram.

• The fast is observed for a full 24 hours (in a milder variation of the fast, devotees can also observe a partial fast) • Observers must abstain from all grains and rice.

• If the couple is having fertility problems or does not have any children, both the spouse and husband must fast and worship Lord Vishnu.

• They must spend their time and energy adoring Lord Vishnu, practicing bhajan kirtan, and keeping a night vigil.

• Special Puja must be prepared to honor the god Vishnu.

• The watchers must visit a neighboring temple of Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu and present holy food (Prasad) to the deities' statues.

• All prayers and rituals must culminate with Lord Vishnu's Aarti.

During the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi puja and fast, the following Mantras are recited:

• Mantra Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

• Sahasranama Vishnu Stotram

• Ashtothram, Vishnu
