The burning of Holika is re-enacted on the night before Holi in the ritual known as Holika Dahan.

• Set up a small altar or mandir with a picture or idol of Lord Vishnu or Radha-Krishna.

• Offer water and milk to the deities.

The Holi Festival in 2022 will take place on March 18, the primary day of the celebration of colors—Dhulandi. The Holi Dahan is celebrated on March 17 and is also referred to as Choti Holi or Holika Dahan Divas.

The most favorable Muhurat of Holika Dahan 2022, according to Panchang, will be between 09:06 PM and 10:16 PM on March 17. 

The Shubh Muhurat for Holika Dahan 2022 following Bhadra will be from 01:12 AM to 6:28 AM on March 18.

The Legend Behind the Celebration

Holi has many mythological stories associated with it. In the end, all lessons lead to the triumph of good over evil.

Among the most famous legends associated with the festival of colors is the one involving the demon Holika and her brother, King Hiranyakashipu. As a powerful King of great stature, Hiranyakashipu was full of pride. His intention was to be worshipped and followed by everyone. His son was unlike him.
Prahlad was the son of King Hiranyakashipu. As opposed to worshiping his father, he worshiped Lord Vishnu. For this reason, he turned to his sister for help.

Holika forced Prahlad to sit on her lap in the blazing fire while she proved that she was immune to burning, and Prahlad would get burned. However, what happened was quite different. Lord Vishnu, the protector, saved his devotee from burning, and Holika the demon was punished for her actions.
Another story is about Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. According to mythology, Krishna loved Radha deeply. But, because their skin tones were different, he faced comments from people around him. Therefore, Lord Krishna applied colors to his "Radhe" and the Gopis did not look at his complexion.

The Astrological Importance of Holi

Astrologers say that on the occasion of Holi, the planets Sun and Moon are in opposition to one other. And this celestial configuration of the planets is beneficial in all ways and methods. If you want to decorate it, put everything you have preserved for the day of Pujan in a clean place. Floral arrangements and rangoli are typically used to decorate the area and its surroundings.
Before worshipping and performing the Pooja, be sure to look for the Shubh Muhurat of Holika Dahan. You should also light lamps in the temple and near Holika Dahan.

Add camphor with it as well. The burning of camphor in Holika is believed to purify the environment and make it holy.
As Shubh Muhurat approaches, worship Holika and pour clear Jal to initiate the Pooja.
You must pray three to seven times with family members after this to keep the evil out of your mind.

Last but not least, you should surrender barley, gram hair, wheat, etc., in your place of worship to the Holika divine flames and keep in your place of worship the ashes of the Dahan.
